Customer Interview Q&A: Emergency Power in an Emergency Situation

When you’re in the middle of an emergency situation, like a hurricane, you run the inevitable risk of losing power. This is especially true in areas that are prone to storms. One of our customers spoke with us about such a scenario and how an emergency power bundle helped them combat a prolonged power outage. Listen to what they had to say:

Where do you live (city, rural, suburb)?
I live in a suburban community in Slidell, Louisiana.

Do you have solar panels installed on your home? If not, would you ever consider it?
No, I don’t have any, and I probably wouldn’t consider it.

How many people are in your household, and are you comfortable sharing their age ranges?
Two, both aged 77.

What do you do for a living and what industry do you work in?
We’re both retired. Previously, I was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. I’ve also worked for the I.R.S. and as a real estate broker.

What product did you purchase from Geneverse (formerly Generark)?
I purchased the Emergency Power Bundle.

Why did you decide to purchase a backup battery power station?
We have gone for more than one day without power many times. After Hurricane Katrina, it was for an entire month.  Recently, after Ida, it was for 6 days.  We could manage with water and natural gas in the house, but without something to run at a minimum, such as a bedroom fan, it would have been unbearable in the heat to even try to sleep at night.

What made you choose Geneverse (formerly Generark)?
I tried pricing out the items separately, and it would typically cost more than just buying the bundle from Geneverse (formerly Generark). Plus, the Geneverse (formerly Generark) brand was known to me, and that made investing my money easier – knowing the reputation of the manufacturer versus an unknown brand.

Do you consider yourself to be a tech-savvy person? How was your experience setting up the product for its first use?
I am tech savvy. Setting up the device was easy to do without help, and the directions were easy to understand.

How many times have you used your products since their arrival? Has it only ever been during a blackout?
I used it immediately following Hurricane Ida earlier this year, where the power was out for 6 days for us. It was the only time we have used it.

Tell us about any unique ways you have or plan to use your Geneverse (formerly Generark) generator. Have you used it outside of your home or within your community, like while camping, for example?
We used it just the one time, and it was used primarily to run fans at night when it was so hot. Plus, we used it to charge two smartphones.  We also used it to listen to radio stations that were still up and running in our area during the storm, then for 6 days after the storm had passed. Other than that, no, we have not used it elsewhere.

What devices and home appliances have you powered with your Geneverse (formerly Generark) products?
Primarily, we used it for our bedroom fans. But we also used it for the coffee pot, toaster, and light fixtures.

What do you consider to be the best feature or benefit of your Geneverse (formerly Generark) product?
It’s easy to use and it takes up very little storage space.

Are there improvements you would suggest or things you wish the product could also do?
It takes a full day of sunshine to fully recharge the unit.  I think everyone would benefit from a quicker charge time, especially on days where the sun is not shining brightly.

What is one thing you would tell anyone who hasn’t yet purchased a backup battery power station?
When you have come to rely so heavily on power for everyday living, life really sucks without electrical power. This is especially true when you live in hot climates like we do, and the heat becomes truly unbearable, making it impossible to sleep at night.
